Tooth-Colored Fillings for Kids

If your child has a cavity, our gentle pediatric team offers tooth-colored fillings that blend naturally with their smile. We use safe, durable materials and calm techniques to make the experience quick and comfortable. Treating cavities early keeps baby teeth strong and prevents infection or discomfort.

Pediatric Dental Crowns

When a baby tooth is too damaged for a filling, our team can restore it with a pediatric dental crown. Crowns protect and strengthen the tooth, helping your child chew comfortably and keep their smile healthy. We offer tooth-colored dental crowns designed to look just like natural teeth, helping your child smile confidently and comfortably.

Stainless Steel Crowns

When a tooth is too damaged for a traditional filling, stainless steel crowns offer a durable solution. These crowns are designed specifically for children, providing strength and function to primary teeth. Our dentists take the time to explain the process in a way that’s fun and relaxed for children. The use of stainless steel crowns often avoids the need for extractions, allowing the natural tooth to remain in place until it falls out naturally.

Pulpotomy

A pulpotomy is a specialized dental procedure often considered when a cavity has reached the pulp of a tooth in children. The pulp is the innermost part of the tooth, containing nerves and blood vessels that keep the tooth alive and nourished.

During a pulpotomy, the dentist carefully removes the damaged or infected part of the pulp from the crown portion of the tooth, while preserving the healthy part of the pulp in the roots. This approach maintains the vitality of the tooth, differentiating it from a complete root canal that might remove all of the pulp. Once the affected pulp is removed, a therapeutic dressing is applied to the remaining healthy pulp to promote healing and prevent any bacterial infection. The tooth is then sealed with a filling or a crown to protect it from further damage.

Space maintainers

If a baby tooth is lost too early, your child may need a space maintainer to hold room for the permanent tooth. This small, comfortable appliance prevents crowding and helps teeth grow in the right place — reducing the need for braces later on. Dr. Viera custom-fits each appliance and monitors growth at every visit.

Nitrous Oxide

For children who feel nervous about dental visits, nitrous oxide—often called “laughing gas”—can help them stay calm and comfortable. It’s a safe, gentle sedative mixed with oxygen that helps your child relax while staying awake and responsive. Once the procedure is done, the effects wear off quickly, allowing your child to return to normal activities with ease. At Children’s Dental Care of Norwalk, we make every visit a positive experience with care tailored to your child’s comfort.
